Personal accounts: China

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a foreigner open a bank account in China?
Yes, foreigners do open personal accounts, but only in person at a branch and with a passport. Many banks also want a visa with enough validity left, a Chinese mobile number and proof of address, study or employment. On a short tourist stay your options narrow sharply.
Do I need a residence permit or work visa?
There is no blanket legal requirement, but after the crackdown on fraudulent accounts banks want a convincing reason for opening one. A residence permit, work visa or student visa makes the process far smoother. Without a clear basis the branch will simply decline.
Can I open a Chinese account remotely?
No. Onboarding requires your physical presence and biometric capture, and there is no remote route for foreigners. Anyone promising an account without a trip to China deserves scepticism.
Are there limits on moving money out of China?
Yes, exchange controls are real: outbound transfers need documentary justification, and new accounts often carry caps on transfers and online activity. China participates in CRS and shares data on accounts held by tax non-residents. Plan the exit route for your money, not just the way in.
