Personal accounts: Chile

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in Chile?
Realistically, no. Chilean banking runs on the RUT tax number, and a full current account is normally reserved for people with legal status and verifiable income in the country. A tourist with only a passport will not get one.
Do I need residency to open an account?
You can obtain a RUT without residency, but the bank will still look at your visa or residence permit, a local address and your source of income. On a temporary visa you are more likely to be offered a simplified account with a card than a classic current account. State and private banks apply noticeably different standards.
What counts as proof of income?
Payslips, tax returns, statements from foreign banks, or documents showing the sale of an asset. Chilean compliance cares not only where the money came from but whether the inflow repeats. A one-off large transfer from abroad almost always triggers a document request.
Does Chile share account information?
Yes, Chile takes part in CRS and exchanges financial account data with other countries. You sign a tax residency declaration when opening, and that is the channel the data travels through. Holding an account does not by itself make you a Chilean tax resident, but work out your status before you move money.
