Personal accounts: Colombia

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in Colombia?
It is difficult. Banks work around the cedula de extranjeria, the local foreigner ID issued once you hold a visa. With only a passport and a tourist stamp you will normally be turned away.
Do I need a visa or residency?
Effectively yes: visa first, then the cedula de extranjeria, then the bank. The visa type matters, since a work or investor visa reads better than a short-term one. Local neobanks and wallets also insist on a Colombian ID.
What proof of income do banks want?
An income certificate or tax return, account statements, and documents showing where transferred money came from. A foreigner without local income usually needs translated paperwork from their previous country of residence. Explain recurring inflows from abroad up front.
Does Colombia exchange account information?
Yes, Colombia is a CRS participant: the bank collects your tax residency details and reports them through DIAN for automatic exchange. Separately, the exchange control regime captures large inbound transfers. A Colombian account hides nothing from your home tax authority.
