Personal accounts: France

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in France?
Yes, French banks do offer non-resident accounts (compte non-resident), though not every branch handles them and the terms are less favourable than for residents. Expect to provide a passport, proof of your address abroad and a reason for needing a French account - buying property, for instance. The bank still decides.
Do I need residency or a French address?
For a resident account, yes - you will need proof of a French address (justificatif de domicile) and legal residence status. A non-resident account can run off a foreign address, but with a narrower product range. Owning French property makes the conversation considerably easier.
What if a French bank turns me down?
There is a right to an account: with a written refusal you can apply to Banque de France, which designates a bank obliged to open a basic account with a free core set of services. The right covers people residing in France, French nationals living abroad and legal residents of the EU. It does not extend to credit or premium cards.
Does France report accounts to other countries?
Yes. France applies CRS and EU-level exchange, and FATCA with the United States. You will sign a tax residence self-certification when the account is opened. Declaring the foreign account in your own country of tax residence remains your responsibility.
