Personal accounts: Germany

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can I open a German bank account without registering an address?
Nearly all German banks want an address registration and a German address. Without it your options shrink to a handful of banks and providers that accept an address elsewhere in the EU. For a non-resident from outside the EU, opening remotely is very hard.
Does a German bank have to open an account for me?
There is a legal right to a basic payment account: a bank serving retail customers must offer one to any consumer lawfully present in the EU, including people with no fixed address. It is a payments account, without overdraft or credit features. The rule does not cover business accounts or non-residents outside the EU.
Can I open a German account online with video ID?
Yes, video and post office identification have been standard for years, provided you have an accepted ID document and an address the bank will take. Video ID does not remove the address and residence requirements. Applicants from higher risk countries usually get a manual review on top.
Does Germany share bank account data with other countries?
Yes - Germany takes part in CRS and applies FATCA, so information on accounts held by tax non-residents goes to their home country. Interest is taxed at source with a solidarity surcharge on top. If you are tax resident elsewhere, you still declare the income under your own rules.
