Personal accounts: Malaysia

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

Prices are indicative and cover our work on a typical case. We confirm the exact quote in writing after a short call - you know the final number before we start. Government fees and bank tariffs are billed separately unless explicitly included.

FAQ

Can a foreigner open a bank account in Malaysia?
It is easiest if you have a reason to be there: an employment pass, a student visa, long stay residence or property. Pure tourists are rarely accepted and it is at the branch's discretion. Practice varies between banks and sometimes between branches of the same bank.
Does MM2H get me a bank account?
Joining the long stay programme gives you status and a documented link to the country, which makes opening an account far easier. The programme itself normally involves placing funds with a Malaysian bank, so the account becomes part of the process. It is still not a guarantee - source of funds is reviewed separately.
Can I open a Malaysian account remotely?
Essentially no; identification is done at a branch with your original passport and proof of address. Some banks allow you to start the application online, but signing and verification happen on the ground. Plan a trip.
Are there limits on transfers out of Malaysia?
Foreign exchange administration rules apply, and transfers, particularly large ones in foreign currency, come with declarations about the purpose of payment. For non-residents the main issue is documenting where the money in the account came from. Check limits and document requirements with the bank before moving a large sum in.
