Can a non-resident open a bank account in Sweden?

It is very hard. Banks are built around customers with a Swedish personal number and a registered address, and non-residents with no link to the country are usually refused. The EU right to a basic payment account mainly helps people legally resident in the EU.

Do I need a personnummer to open a Swedish bank account?

It is not formally the only way to be identified, but without one access to normal banking products is nearly closed. The personal number comes with population registration, generally for stays of a year or more.

What is BankID and can I bank without it?

BankID is the Swedish electronic identity used for logging in, paying and signing documents. You cannot get it without a personal number and a Swedish bank account, which leaves newcomers in a circular problem.

Does Sweden share account data under CRS?

Yes. Sweden participates in CRS and in EU exchange of information, so balances and income are reported to your country of tax residence.
