Can I open a Thai bank account on a tourist visa?

Rules have tightened and most banks now ask for a long-stay visa, a work permit or proof of address. A few branches still open accounts for tourists, often with restrictions or a bundled insurance product, but nobody can promise it.

What visa do I need for a bank account in Thailand?

Life is easiest with a Non-Immigrant visa in category B, O or ED, or with a work permit or retirement status. The longer and clearer your legal status, the fewer questions the bank raises.

Can I open a Thai bank account remotely?

No. You have to be there in person and sign at the branch. Remotely you can only prepare and translate documents and book the appointment.

Does Thailand report accounts under CRS?

Yes, Thailand joined automatic exchange and reports accounts held by tax non-residents to partner jurisdictions. A Thai account does not take the income out of reach of your home tax authority.
