FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in Tajikistan?
Yes, a foreigner can usually open an account with a passport during a personal visit, and some banks also ask for a migration card or local registration. The practical value of such an account for international use is low.
Do Tajik bank cards work abroad?
Cards on international schemes are issued, but limits, fees and reliability outside the country are patchy. Taking one as your only means of payment when travelling is a risk.
Are there limits on moving currency out of Tajikistan?
Yes. Buying and transferring foreign currency is regulated, and the bank asks for proof of source of funds and the purpose of the payment. Larger outbound transfers get extra scrutiny and are not always quick.
Is Tajikistan part of CRS?
As of September 2026 the country is not among the jurisdictions doing automatic exchange under CRS. That does not make the account invisible - you still have to declare foreign accounts where you are tax resident, and the list of participating countries keeps growing.
