Business accounts: El Salvador

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a foreigner open a company account in El Salvador?
Yes, but through a local company: registration with the national registry, an NIT tax number and an appointed legal representative. Banks are conservative and look closely at foreign beneficial owners. An account for an offshore company with no Salvadoran registration is close to impossible.
Do I need a local representative for a company account?
Yes, the company needs a legal representative, and banks strongly prefer one holding a local ID and address. A foreigner can hold the role, but expect to need residency status or at minimum in-person visits. Without someone on the ground, day-to-day operations get cumbersome.
What does a Salvadoran bank ask for on a corporate account?
Incorporation documents, the NIT, ownership details, a description of the activity, expected turnover and source of capital, plus reference letters. Cash-intensive businesses and crypto-related flows draw particular caution. Review takes weeks, not days.
Do Salvadoran banks work with crypto?
Bitcoin was given legal tender status in 2021, but traditional banks remain cautious with crypto assets and inflows from exchanges get enhanced scrutiny. Licensed digital asset providers exist separately, but that is not the same as a bank account. Expect detailed questions on where the crypto came from.
