Business accounts: Montserrat

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a Montserrat company open a bank account there?
Realistically no. Montserrat is a very small British Overseas Territory whose banking serves the local economy, and offshore banking was wound down back in the 1990s when licences were revoked. You can register a company, but it will have to bank elsewhere or through a payment institution.
Where should a Montserrat company bank instead?
Look at the countries where the business actually operates - where the clients, staff, office or stock are. The bank will ask why you chose that jurisdiction, and you need a convincing answer beyond tax. The more exotic the registration, the more documents and time compliance will demand.
Do I need to visit the island in person?
Local banks serve people who live and trade on the island, so remote corporate onboarding is not on offer. Even in person, a non resident structure with no activity in Montserrat will be declined. The trip alone does not solve the problem.
Will an EMI work instead of a bank?
Often it is the only workable route, but EMIs also keep lists of acceptable jurisdictions and small Caribbean territories do not always make the cut. Check the provider's country policy before you pay for incorporation. Keep beneficial ownership and source of funds documents ready either way.
