Business accounts: Monaco

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a company open a bank account in Monaco?
Yes, but a Monaco company (SAM or SARL) first needs government authorisation to operate, and the bank works alongside that process. For a foreign company an account is possible in theory, but in practice it happens when the beneficial owner is already a private banking client. Registering a structure and walking in for an account does not work here.
Do I need an office and staff in Monaco?
For a Monaco company, yes - real premises, staff and genuine activity in the principality are part of the authorisation conditions. Monaco deliberately avoids empty structures and protects the reputation of the jurisdiction. No real activity means no authorisation and no account.
What does compliance ask for in Monaco?
All the standard items plus a detailed wealth history: how the money was made, business sale documents, inheritance papers, tax returns, statements from previous banks. The review goes deeper than retail banking and the questions can feel personal. Thin or inconsistent answers almost always end in a refusal.
How long does it take to open the account?
Weeks, sometimes months: the file goes through a bank committee, and for a company the government procedure adds time on top. A meeting with the banker in Monaco is effectively mandatory. There are no guarantees - the bank decides and need not explain a no.
