Business accounts: Namibia

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a foreigner open an account for a Namibian company?
Yes, provided the company is registered locally and has a tax number. The bank will need a signatory who can attend a branch, a verified company address and a clear description of the business. Foreign ownership is allowed, but running the company purely from abroad with no local presence is hard.
Does Namibia have exchange controls?
Yes. Namibia is part of the Common Monetary Area with South Africa, the Namibian dollar is pegged to the rand, and cross-border payments are governed by exchange control rules. Every outward transfer needs documentary justification and some transactions require regulator approval. This is the practical factor to plan your cash flows around.
Do I need a local director or staff?
Check director composition requirements with the companies registry, but in any case the bank will want a local signatory and a real address. A foreigner working in their own company needs a work permit and legal status. A shell with no activity in the country is unlikely to get an account.
What documents does the bank need and how long does it take?
Company registration documents, the constitution, the resolution appointing directors, the tax number, passports and proof of address for signatories, the ownership structure, and a description of the business and expected turnover. Foreign documents need an apostille and English translation. Expect weeks, longer for complex structures or exchange control questions.
