Business accounts: Netherlands

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a foreign company open a bank account in the Netherlands?
In practice, almost never. Dutch banks serve companies registered with the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) that have a genuine link to the country - an address, staff, local contracts, management on the ground. A foreign entity with no Dutch footprint is usually pointed to a licensed EU payment institution instead of a bank.
Do I need a Dutch resident director for a BV account?
Company law does not require a resident director for a BV, but the bank looks at reality rather than the statute: where decisions are made, whether there is an office, staff and Dutch counterparties. A sole non-resident director with no ties to the country is one of the most common reasons for rejection.
What documents do Dutch banks ask a company for?
The KvK extract, articles of association, the ownership chain up to the ultimate beneficial owners, passports and proof of address for each UBO, a description of the business, expected turnover and counterparty countries, plus proof of where the capital came from. Higher-risk profiles such as crypto, offshore holdings or exposure to sanctioned markets face far more questions and much lower odds.
How long does it take to open a business account in the Netherlands?
There is no fixed timeline. A locally owned company is usually a matter of weeks, while onboarding a foreign-owned structure runs in loops of follow-up requests and can be closed without an explanation. Apply to a bank and to a payment provider in parallel so operations do not hang on one decision.
