FAQ

Can a foreigner open a company bank account in North Macedonia?
Yes, and it is one of the more accessible options in the region. A foreigner can own and manage a local company, and once it is entered in the Central Register and has a tax number, banks will open an account. Expect the signatory to come in person with translated and certified corporate documents.
Do I need a local director or residence permit?
Residency is not required to own the company. If a foreign manager actually works in the country, they need a legal basis to stay and work, and banks are generally more comfortable with a local address, a local phone number and a manager they can reach.
How long does it take to open a business account in North Macedonia?
Company registration itself is quick, a matter of days, and the account normally follows within a short series of visits to the bank. The real variable is how fast you get documents translated into Macedonian and certified.
Is a Macedonian bank account any good for international payments?
Domestically it works fine, accounts in denars and euros are standard and transfers go through SWIFT. The sector is small though, foreign exchange rules treat residents and non-residents differently, and access to European payment schemes is worth confirming with the specific bank before you commit.
