Personal accounts: North Macedonia

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in North Macedonia?
Yes. Banks open non-resident accounts for foreigners on a passport, normally with a visit to a branch. Some will also ask for a local tax number and an explanation of why you want the account.
Do I need a residence permit to open an account?
No, a permit is not required, but it changes your status to resident, which changes the currency rules and the products available to you. Without residence, plan on the basics: an account, a card and transfers.
Can I open a Macedonian bank account remotely?
No, the standard route is an in-person visit. Opening through a power of attorney is sometimes discussed, but banks are cautious about it and the document has to be legalised and translated.
Does North Macedonia exchange bank data under CRS?
North Macedonia has committed to the CRS standard and is rolling out automatic exchange, so the bank will record your tax residency; confirm the current state of play for your own country with the bank. Separately, many countries require you to declare a foreign account yourself, which is an obligation independent of CRS.
