Personal accounts: Belgium

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in Belgium?
Yes, but not automatically. If you legally reside in the EU you have a right to a basic payment account, and a bank cannot refuse it without solid grounds. If you live outside the EU that right does not apply, and most banks will want a Belgian address and a concrete reason for banking here.
Do I need residency and a national number?
For a full account banks normally ask for a Belgian address and a national register number or bis number. Without residency an account is realistic only for a specific purpose: buying property, studying, or a work contract. Mobile-only banks are often limited to Belgian or EEA residents.
How do I prove where my money came from?
Belgium applies EU anti-money-laundering rules strictly. Expect to show salary slips, dividend records, sale agreements or inheritance papers, plus tax returns and statements. A large incoming transfer gets reviewed on its own and can be held until you explain it. Saying it is personal savings, with no paperwork, will not do.
Will my home tax office find out about the account?
Yes. Belgium applies CRS and, inside the EU, automatic exchange under the DAC rules, so account data goes to your country of tax residence. All Belgian accounts are also listed in the central account register held by the National Bank of Belgium.
