Personal accounts: Brazil

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in Brazil?
Yes, but you need a Brazilian tax number (CPF), and the bank opens a non-resident account with restrictions on what you can do with it. Many banks simply do not offer them, so the choice is limited. With residency and a local address it gets far easier.
Do I need a CPF and how do I get one?
A CPF is required for almost everything: bank account, phone line, rental, property purchase. You apply with your passport, including through Brazilian consulates abroad. No bank will open an account without it.
Do I have to be there in person?
Almost always, yes. Brazilian banks identify clients in branch, and the digital banks require a CPF, a Brazilian address and selfie verification at sign-up, which usually filters non-residents out. Fully remote opening as a non-resident is rare.
What about taxes and CRS?
Brazil participates in CRS and exchanges account data actively. Once you become a Brazilian tax resident you declare worldwide income and foreign assets, and above set thresholds you also file a separate foreign asset report with the Central Bank. Thresholds and forms change, so check the current rules.
