A visa for remote employees of foreign companies and freelancers. Valid for 1 year, renewable, with low taxes and an inexpensive cost of living.
Sri Lanka issues a digital nomad visa to foreigners working for a company outside the country and to freelancers. Since 19 February 2026 the programme is officially in force, with a fixed income threshold. The visa lets you legally live on the island while keeping your remote job or business abroad.
Visa terms
Who is eligible: foreign nationals working for a company outside Sri Lanka, and freelancers.
- Validity period: 1 year, renewable.
- Minimum income: at least $2,000 a month in remittances from abroad. Each dependent beyond two adds $500 a month.
- Visa fee: $500.
- Taxes: personal income tax of 6%-18%.
