FAQ

How much do I need to earn for the Sri Lanka nomad visa?
From $2,000 a month received from abroad. Each dependant beyond the first two adds another $500 a month. Income is proved with bank statements and contracts, so build that history in advance.
How much does the Sri Lanka digital nomad visa cost?
The visa fee is $500. On top of that come translations, certificates and document preparation. The final cost depends on family size and how many papers have to be reissued.
How long is the visa valid and can it be renewed?
It is issued for one year and can be renewed. Renewal requires you to keep meeting the conditions: a foreign source of income and provable transfers. Requirements can be adjusted, so check them before you reapply.
Can I work for a local company on this visa?
No. The visa is for people employed by a company outside Sri Lanka and for freelancers with foreign clients. The money must come from abroad. Working for a local employer needs a different permit.
What tax do nomads pay in Sri Lanka?
Personal income tax runs from 6% to 18%. Whether you owe it depends on whether you become a tax resident and how your income is classified. A double tax treaty with your home country can reduce the burden.
