Personal accounts: El Salvador

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in El Salvador?
It is hard. Most banks are set up for clients with a DUI or residency status, and non-residents are onboarded selectively and with extra requirements. A referral from an existing client or a local lawyer sometimes helps.
Do I need residency for a Salvadoran bank account?
Not as a matter of law, but residency makes an enormous practical difference. With a residence permit and a local number you get normal access to products; without one, access is selective and restricted. Requirements differ from bank to bank.
What currency are Salvadoran accounts in?
The US dollar has been the official currency since 2001, so accounts are held in dollars. That removes the conversion question but not the compliance checks on incoming transfers. Large inbound payments from abroad need documentary support.
Do I have to prove source of funds in El Salvador?
Yes. The bank will ask where the money came from and want documents - an employment contract, tax returns, an asset sale agreement. Large cash amounts trigger separate questions. Without a clear explanation the account is either declined or restricted later.
