Personal accounts: Netherlands

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in the Netherlands?
At a high street bank it is hard: the basic requirement is a BSN, the citizen service number you get when you register with a municipality. A few Dutch digital banks onboard residents of other EU and EEA countries remotely, but if you live outside the EU with no Dutch residence status, the options are close to zero.
Do I need a BSN to open a Dutch bank account?
For most banks yes - without it they cannot complete identification or connect you to local services. The number comes from registering in the population register at a Dutch address, which requires a legal basis to stay. Narrow exceptions exist for short stays, but do not build a plan around them.
Is there a minimum balance for a Dutch bank account?
Retail current accounts normally have no minimum balance, but banks charge a monthly package fee plus separate costs for cards and transfers. Balance thresholds belong to private banking, which you enter on the size of your assets rather than by filling in a form.
Do Dutch banks report accounts to my home country?
Yes. The Netherlands takes part in CRS: the bank establishes your tax residency, asks for your tax number and reports the account once a year to the Dutch tax authority, which passes it on. US persons are covered separately by FATCA. Banking secrecy is not a way to keep an account out of sight at home.
