FAQ

Can a foreigner open a bank account in Egypt?
Yes, banks do open accounts for foreigners on a passport, often asking additionally for a visa or proof of your status in the country. Foreign currency accounts for non-residents are more common than pound accounts. Terms vary noticeably between banks.
Do I need residency for an Egyptian bank account?
Not always, but a residence visa or permit widens the product range and reduces the questions. A non-resident may be offered an account with limits on transactions and cards. Each bank sets its own requirements within Central Bank rules.
Can I move money back out of Egypt?
Formally yes, but outbound transfers require source of funds documentation, and withdrawals were delayed during periods of currency shortage. If you bring money in, keep the bank confirmations of the inbound transfer - they matter when you send it back out. Do not park more in an Egyptian account than you can leave there for a while.
Does Egypt exchange account data under CRS?
Egypt has signed up to international tax information exchange standards, and banks ask for your tax residence when you open an account. Practice with specific partner countries can differ, so check the current status when you apply. Either way, declaring a foreign account in your country of tax residence is your own obligation.
